Join us on an unforgettable summit hike to Keipen in Harstad! This hike offers fantastic views of fjords, mountains and islands and is suitable for everyone, regardless of experience. The hike is only offered during the summer and autumn seasons when the weather conditions are optimal.

How to get to the top

The hike starts with a 25-minute drive from Harstad city center to the parking lot at Aunfjellet, 350 meters above sea level. From there, we follow a well-maintained trail through beautiful birch forest before passing the tree line and moving into open mountain terrain. The trail has a gentle incline, and after about an hour at a leisurely pace we reach the summit of Keipen at 500 meters above sea level.

Experience the wildlife

Keipen is not only known for its spectacular views, but also for its rich wildlife. Along the way you can spot grouse and sparrowhawks at the edge of the forest, while white-tailed eagles often soar majestically over the mountains. It is also possible to see moose grazing on the valley sides or reindeer migrating over the mountains. On clear days you can even catch a glimpse of seals resting on the rocks far down in the fjord.

Unforgettable views await at the summit

When you reach the top of Keipen, you are rewarded with a panoramic view of Toppsundet, Kasfjord, Andfjorden and the impressive Grytøy mountains. In autumn, the experience is enhanced by the Arctic light, with spectacular colors of blue, pink and orange.
